“I have been profoundly changed by what I experienced at The Well Church in Jacksonville, Florida. Worshiping with some homeless people, sharing communion and having incredible conversations was humbling and life-changing. These are regular people who have very little, but the ones we met had joy and a church family they called their own. Wow!” - Mark Alewine
When Cindy and I went to Jacksonville Florida for my knee surgery, we had hopes of connecting with some worship-leading songwriters who live in that area. Our plan did not work out BUT God set up some other meetings for us that had more impact than we could imagine.
I was feeling dry, wondering if inspiration had gone. I’d had a song bouncing around in my head, but it just wasn’t coming together. I’d been discussing this with God. Sunday rolled around and off we went to a nearby church we found on Google called The Well. Worshiping along with homeless people was remarkable and wonderful. Sharing communion and incredible conversation with them was humbling. These are regular people who have very little, but the ones we met had joy and a church family they called their own. Wow!
The next morning, God answered my prayer (while I was blow drying my hair) and the song morphed and “snapped” into place. Wow! Everything I Got! was inspired by the way that Pastor Tone Benedict and The Well Church in Jacksonville Florida reach out to the homeless, inviting them to worship with them, serving them, providing showers, food and lots of love. This was a flesh-and-blood reminder that we’re not living this life for ourselves. We are living this life as believers to bring others into eternity with us.
