My Lady is a deeply romantic tribute to the love between a man and a woman.”

My wife, Cindy, and I took care of her father in our home for over 5 years. He had Parkinson’s Disease. This song was written during his final days as I was sitting in the dark in a chair beside his bed. Cindy was working in the hallway just outside the bedroom. It was about 11:30 pm. We weren’t sure if he was going to make it through the night.

As I was watching her work out there, how tirelessly she kept pushing forward, I began to write these words. They literally came out within ten minutes.

I see you there, reaching out and taking care, showing love everywhere.

It’s just amazing because, not only with her dad and with me but really with anybody who comes into our house - when we have company over, when our family comes over, when we do events at our house and we have anywhere from 8-40 people - she just shows the same love everywhere she goes. It’s really amazing. It made me very grateful and I realized how blessed I really am to have this woman, Cindy Alewine, as my wife for 38+ years now. And every day it’s sweeter, all the things she does seem to get sweeter. She truly is my helpmate and my soulmate. That’s where I wrote this,

You’re my lady, my number one, my finer things in life…

I wrote the melody the next day about as quickly as the words had come the night before. It was a precious, tear-filled time together as I played this song for her for the very first time.
